Marketing Assistant

We are making step changes in the way we operate in order to deliver even more impact from our innovations. This has led to the opening of this new position for a Marketing Assistant. The marketing function at Ploughshare is broad. You’ll need to be comfortable in understanding how licensing works; liaising with various stakeholders including our internal and external customers, clients, and scientists; and be able to articulate how what we do delivers impact.

Job description

The role offers the ability to be involved across all our marketing communications activities. In particular, we are seeking someone to take on responsibility for event management and our social media output. While this is the focus, expertise in other areas of marketing will be considered for this multi-tasking role.

  • Exhibitions – plan and organise our exhibition space at trade shows
  • Roadshows – plan and organise events with our various Clients (the organisations that supply us with innovations) either on-site, off-site or virtually.
  • Awards Events – plan and organise award events to celebrate new license deals
  • Social media – prepare copy and graphics, and schedule regular social media posts on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook
  • Analytics – monitor and track the performance of campaigns
  • Collateral – support the preparation of marketing collateral such as emails, newsletters, datasheets, brochures, website, and presentations
  • Reporting – preparation of reports and summaries of event and campaign performance
  • Support – general support to the Head of Marketing

Candidate profile

Candidates are likely to be highly motivated graduates (or equivalent) with either a marketing or technology background. They will have a highly developed interest in technology and science and to be able to operate in a small team, be flexible and creative in their approach, with an eye for detail and accuracy. They will have had:

  • Track record of delivering exhibitions and events, ideally in a B2B environment
  • Track record of managing social media campaigns together with ability to demonstrate successes achieved / outcomes
  • Strong ability to prepare compelling copy/artwork combined with good proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • Evidence of B2B campaign marketing to meet desired KPIs
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, effectively and persuasively
  • A sound understanding of segmentation and targeting
  • An ability to understand complex engineering / scientific concepts
  • Highly organised, ability to multi-task / prioritise, and able to work under own initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and maintain relationships with our 3rd party suppliers

Desirable skills and experience

  • Google Analytics, CMS (ideally Word Press), SEO, Google Data Studio, Mailchimp, Survey Monkey, Adobe InDesign, Canva, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM systems
  • Knowledge of export control
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following domains: Defence & Security, Health & Life Sciences, Environment, Digital Sciences
  • Market research
  • PR


This role reports to the Head of Marketing. The Marketing Assistant has no direct reports.
