Portfolio Operations Manager

Ploughshare Innovations enables the research and innovations developed by its shareholder Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), and wider UK Government, to be commercialised to benefit both humanity and the UK economy. We’re an established, small, close-knit team with big ambitions. As we execute our growth strategy we will expand our wide ranging portfolio of opportunities and we’ll need to optimize our operating model. As such, we are looking for a Portfolio Operations Manager to support our Portfolio Management function. We’re on an exciting journey to expand across government, can you help drive us there?

Spin-outs and licences established by Ploughshare range from new medical and diagnostic products like our presymptomatic sepsis diagnostic tool; to world-leading communications and surveillance technologies; to groundbreaking new materials set to redefine the world of forensic science and aid police in catching criminals. We need you to ensure we have the best working practices by using analytical insight to drive the best outcomes from our overall portfolio of inventions and intellectual property. You will help build a comprehensive working capability that makes it really easy for our innovation sources to collaborate with us, and ensure that time is never wasted in taking our innovations to market.

Responsibilities

  • Support our Portfolio VP in providing Portfolio Management Office capability
  • Develop and manage the operational capability to determine a prioritized and balanced portfolio, capable of meeting our business and impact goals.
  • Manage and optimize client disclosure and opportunity onboarding processes.
  • Support development of our end to end delivery model, its processes and systems.
  • Develop our data dictionary and associated data quality measures, driving ongoing development to fulfil our reporting, Management Information and insight needs.
  • Create and manage our executive and client Management Information and dashboards across our operating model.
  • Manage and continue to develop our Portfolio Management System (CRM).
  • Administer / manage changes to our CRM system
  • Provide Portfolio and Business Transformation Programme support.
  • Development of portfolio presentation content for our executive team and clients.
  • Monitoring and analysis of our portfolio performance, recommending and owning opportunities to improve it.

Person specification

Ideally you are educated to degree level. A track record in developing new operating models and systems is essential combined with strong operational and Business / Management Information experience, particularly visualization. A background across a diverse range of sectors and experience in agile methodology would be very welcome. You must be analytical, and curious in your thinking. You will be commercially agile, have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable collaborating with your colleagues.

Good MS Excel and PowerPoint skills will be essential for this role

Power BI, QlikSense or similar experience will be an advantage

An understanding of Intellectual Property Rights and the UK patent process is desirable.

To succeed you will need to build positive relationships with our team, our commercial partners and across government. You will require high level verbal and written skills.

Location

Our office is based at Porton Down Science Park, Wiltshire. However, the working location is flexible if you are able to travel to Wiltshire when required. The role will may require travel, both nationally and internationally.
