Ploughshare Innovations, the organisation responsible for the exploitation of innovations developed by the UK Ministry of Defence and wider government, is pleased to announce the expansion of its team to meet the growing pipeline of innovations coming from Dstl.

The existing established, close-knit team is soon to be complemented by two additional commericalisation managers, a secondee from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), and two interns.

The two commericalisation manager roles, for which applications are open until 21 October 2020, are for a VP Commercialisation position to focus on digital sciences, and for a Head of Portfolio, Strategic Delivery and Finance to help drive financial and strategic leadership to our portfolio of innovations.

These new positions were identified to enable Ploughshare with its ambitious plans for growth. Under the leadership of the company’s new CEO, Hetti Barkworth-Nanton, the company will soon be taking on a new focus which will see a step-change in the number of license deals and spin-out companies it creates. The vision is that this will deliver even greater impact from our pool of innovations to support the UK economy and society as a whole.

Hetti said:

I am passionate about building an organisation that is innovative, exciting, inclusive and truly diverse. No one has all the answers, and for that reason we need to be a business which genuinely wants to learn and take on board different experiences and perspectives, and innovate not just in what we do but how we do it.

If you have always felt that you have so much to bring but never quite felt you have been in the right place to realise it; if you are ambitious not only for yourself but about the impact you can have in the world; if you are excited about the unknown then we want to hear from you.

Joining ahead of the commericalisation managers is Laura, our new secondee from Dstl, who joins us today and takes over from Gavin who was with us for 18 months. The secondee programme has been running for several years now and gives the opportunity for a Dstl employee to learn more about the commercialisation process, the innovation ecosystem, and the ability to develop their networks.

Next week, we also will be welcoming Denzil and Noah on 5 October as our first interns. We recognise how tough is it for young people coming out of university at the moment and for that reason we wanted to create this opportunity. We are looking forward to embracing their new ideas and thoughts about our innovations and how best they can be taken to market.
